Abdullah Ünlübay: "New World Taekwondo Coach License System"
From next year, only coaches who are in possession of a coaching license issued by the world association will be allowed to enter the fighting area. The licenses previously issued by the continental associations are no longer valid. The preparations for the worldwide conversion of the coach license system are already in full swing at the world association.

Since the beginning of the year, instructors certified by the World Taekwondo have been trained who are to take on the training of club coaches in their nations in the future. From Germany, Abdullah Ünlübay, Referee Officer at the DTU, successfully participated in the “WT Educator Certification Course” in San Jose, Costa Rica.

The way to Costa Rica was not as easy for Abdullah Ünlübay as it looks afterwards. Registration for the course went through the DTU. However, after the number of participants was very limited and there were many applications to the world association, Abdullah had to wait a long time until he got the approval from the world association. At the same time, Abdullah also had to take care of the preparations and implementation of the German Open in Hamburg. "Since both dates were so close together, I flew directly from Hamburg to Costa Rica."

The very extensive set of rules was presented to the 31 course participants in San Jose. “The topics of the course were 304 pages in total. Everything was dealt with. ”In the end, the participants had to answer twenty questions in a written exam, give an 8-minute presentation on a given topic in English, and then also put their knowledge to the test in an oral exam. From Abdullah Ünlübay's point of view, the whole test was very demanding. "When I was told a few days later that I had passed the exam, I was really relieved."

The future courses for acquiring the coach licenses should, if possible, be carried out in the respective national language. Abdullah Ünlübay speaks three languages and can therefore offer courses in German, Turkish and English.

Abdullah Ünlübay plans to offer two coaching license courses each year. Details will be announced by him. As far as this can currently be estimated and can also be implemented, the courses are to be offered this year.

For the acquisition of a level 1 coach license, two course days are scheduled, for level 2 the course will last three days. After the course, an examination in the respective national language is required.

The dates of the first courses will be published by Abdullah Ünlübay as soon as this is possible in the current situation.

A concept with all questions and answers related to the new WT Coach license system was developed by the world association. The concept was translated by Abdullah Ünlübay.

New WT Coach license system: everything worth knowing

The WT Coach license will be introduced on January 1, 2021 and will replace the WTE Coach license that was valid until then. For 2020, the WTE Coach license is still required to coach at official WTE events.

In the following you will find all necessary information for all coaches. If you have any further questions, please email coaches@worldtaekwondoeurope.org. An answer will be given within a week. All questions and answers will also be published.

Question: How does the new WT Coach license system work?

Answer: WT has developed a 3-stage course to get a coach approval.
Level 1 means that a coach is allowed to coach at all WT recognized international competitions including continental championships, G1 and G2 tournaments.
Level 2 means that a coach is allowed to coach at all WT competitions such as WT World Championships (seniors, juniors, cadets, Poomsae and Beach), WT Grand Prix and WT Grand Slam.
Level 3 is given to all top-level coaches who are allowed to coach at the Olympic Games and Youth Olympics.

Question: Do I need training for the new WT license?

Answer: Yes, that is needed. Numerous courses and seminars are currently scheduled across Europe by WT and WTE. The idea behind this is to train all coaches at the national level in their mother tongue. The aim is to organize seminars in almost all European countries in order to keep travel costs as low as possible and to prevent coaches from having no further travel to take part in a course.

Question: Where can I register for a WT Coach seminar?

Answer: The registration process takes place via the WT portal worldtkd.simplycompete.com. You can register for all WT Coach seminars in Europe using this link. WT Coach Seminar is listed as a normal event on the website.

Question: What are the costs for a WT Coach license?

Answer: Level 1: 200 euros, Level 2: 300 euros, Level 3: to be determined

Question: How long is the WT Coach license valid?

Answer: All WT Coach licenses are valid for two years and can be renewed every time for a further two years.

Question: Do you have to go to a WT Coach seminar every 2 years?

Answer: The WT is currently working on an opportunity for further training online. The seminars provide useful information and have a high pedagogical value. It is therefore recommended to attend the seminars, at least once every 2 years. Since the seminars are offered at the national level, the financial hurdle should be as low as possible. More information on further training courses will be published by the WT.

Question: Who are the speakers for the WT Coach seminars?

Answer: A total of 38 speakers were trained by the WT to conduct WT Coach seminars. Among them are the best international referees, Olympic coaches, officials and other highly qualified people with in-depth knowledge and taekwondo experience. The speakers speak the respective national languages and are divided worldwide in order to pass on their experiences in the seminars worldwide.

Answer: The WT Coach license replaces the WTE Coach license from 1.1.2021. For 2020, the WTE Coach license is still required to coach at official WTE events.

Question: My WTE Coach license expired in 2019 and I don't have a new license. What am I doing?

Answer: Take part in a WT Coach seminar. After participating in a seminar, you can coach at all events in 2020. The provisions of the WT Coach regulations will apply from 2021.

Answer: If the license is valid until mid 2020, you can either take part in a WT Coach seminar or renew the WTE Coach license for the remaining months in 2020. As of 2021, the WTE Coach license is no longer valid and the provisions of the WT Coach regulations apply, all coaches must be in possession of a WT Coach license.

Question: The WTE homepage for coach license extensions is not available. How can I renew my WTE license for 2020?

Answer: WTE encourages everyone to attend WT Coach seminars as early as 2020. However, if you still want to have the WTE Coach license extended for 2020, an email should be sent to coaches@worldtaekwondoeurope.org with the following information: surname, first name, date of birth, GAL number.

Question: My WTE Coach license is valid beyond 1.1.2021. What am I doing?

Answer: A small number of coaches recently extended their WTE coach license beyond January 1st, 2021. The WTE is in lively exchange with the WT to find a solution for these coaches.
